Veteran American Singer Akon is reportedly considering running for the highest office in the world, ‘The Oval’ come 2020.
The ‘Mama Africa’ crooner said that he is disappointed with Donald Trump’s style of leadership.
Speaking to Newsweek Akon said, “I’ve been thinking about running for 2020 very seriously.” “But I didn’t want to just do it because I feel like I want to continue doing what I’m doing and hope that builds me enough momentum [for people] to say, ‘You know what, if you run we’ll support you.’”
Akon faulted Donald Trump’s stance on immigration among other things.
“I feel a lot more unsafe,” he said. “I feel un-empowered. Honestly, I feel it’s gonna be a fight. I feel like I should be always prepared for the unexpected. I feel very uncomfortable.”
Akon further elaborated, adding, “After Obama, you had blacks, whites, Hispanics, everybody working together. We really came a long way to get people to come together, and look at each other as humans, and work towards a common cause. And now it seems like everything that was done is being undone, with gangs and race groups reemerging. It’s just horrible.”
Fortunately, his optimism lies in doing what he feels is right for the people and has several plans in the works regarding how he is going to continue giving back.
“At first, I used to always tell myself that I would never do it… But now I’m starting to realize through experience that the only way to make change is to be in it,” he added, further explaining why running for president in 2020 has been on his mind.
Time will tell if Akon decides to officially run but for now, we definitely salute all of his humanitarian and business-savvy efforts.
