Singer, Songwriter, Ayra Starr has officially confirmed that she has relocated to New York City, marking a new chapter in her fast-rising global career.
The Afrobeats star revealed the news during a recent video interview, where she spoke candidly about adjusting to life in the American city and why it feels surprisingly familiar.
When asked directly whether she now lives in New York, the singer smiled and responded, “I do,” adding that she has been an official resident for “less than two months.” She noted that the move wasn’t a drastic shift for her because of how often she had already been visiting the city.
“I’m always in New York regardless,” she said. “I’ve always been in New York. I’m a New Yorker in my spirit.”
Ayra Starr explained that what draws her most to the city is how much it reminds her of Lagos, the place where she grew up and built the early part of her music career. “New York reminds me so much of Lagos,” she said, describing its energy, speed, and cultural rhythm. “So it feels like home.”
She also emphasized the comfort she finds in the city’s large African community. “There’s a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so it feels like home,” she added.
The move positions the 23-year-old artist even closer to the global music market, especially as she continues to perform at major U.S. festivals and expand her international reach.
