Sanwo-Olu Appoints London-To-Lagos Solo Driver, Pelumi Nubi, Tourism Ambassador

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has appointed a 28-year-old travel content creator, Pelumi Nubi, as the state tourism ambassador.

This was made known by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a tweet via his profile on X on Monday.

He said, “Welcome, Pelumi Nubi #peluminubi_, Our Brand New Lagos Ambassador, She gets a brand new car from Governor #jidesanwoolu, a new home in Lagos, a customized plate number and one more thing, she is donating her vehicle (the one she used for the trip) to our brand new J Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History as monumental gift to Lagos State.”

Nubi, who completed her solo road trip from London, United Kingdom, to Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday was received at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border on behalf of Lagos State Government by the state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and the Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe.

Pelumi Nubi, a Nigerian travel content creator, has driven from London to Lagos, spending two months on the road. The content creator made and shared footage of herself on arrival in Lagos.

Nubi arrived in Lagos on April 7, making her way to the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

In November 2023, Nubi announced her intention to embark on a solo trip from London to Lagos.

She commenced the trip on January 30. Nubi made the trip in a Peugeot 107. The vehicle was customized with features that allowed for sleeping and dining spaces. Nubi has travelled across 17 countries, her itinerary took her from England to France, Spain, Morocco, and through the West Sahara Desert, all by road.

She drove through Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Benin before arriving in Lagos.

At UNILAG, the content creator was received by Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Lagos commissioner of tourism, arts and culture.

Also present at the reception was Idris Aregbe, a special adviser on tourism, arts and culture in Lagos.

Nubi had initially announced that she would arrive in Lagos on March 23. However, she said the date had been changed due to border issues she was experiencing in some countries.

She later disclosed that she was denied entry at the Sierra Leonian and Liberian borders.

On March 26, Nubi revealed that she was involved in a car accident. She also shared photos of the wrecked car with the front part severely mangled and the windscreen shattered.

She, however, said she would continue her trip when she regains strength.

Nubi’s passion for travel is not new. In a social media post of 2022, she disclosed that she had visited 77 countries at age 27.
