Wizkid’s first son, Boluwatife Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Tife or Champz, has officially stepped into the spotlight with the release of his debut extended play titled Champion’s Arrival.
The five-track EP features Afrobeats production with Champz delivering rap verses in a British accent, reflecting his upbringing in the United Kingdom. Tracks focus on personal storytelling, covering his experiences with friends, school life, support from his mother, and criticism over being labeled a “nepo baby.”
Champz pays tribute to music legends on the project as a way to establish his identity. Notably, he does not directly mention his father, Wizkid in any of the five songs. Champz, who keeps lyrics simple and focused, he addresses his journey without deviating from core themes, presenting himself as a young artist carving his own path.
Most listeners made comments about a line from his teaser, where he stated that it is time for the younger generation to take over.
“Shout-out to the OGs in the game, but it’s time to pass on the baton,” he said.
Champion’s Arrival is now available on streaming platforms. Champz enters the Afrobeats space at a young age, following a path similar to his father’s early start. The project highlights personal narrative over reliance on family fame.
The Nigerian music industry continues to evolve with new generational talents. Champz’s debut adds to discussions about legacy, independence, and emerging artists in Afrobeats.
