Adesodun Michael Babatunde who took the featherweight boxing division by storm at two consecutive national sports festivals while representing Lagos is a fighting marvel has never been in dispute. So it came as no surprise when entertainment and promotional companies, SonyJojo Entertainment snapped up the talented boxer in a management and promotional deal.
Adesodun popularly known by his moniker, AMB (an alphabet soup of his names) has never failed to impress ever since starting his amateur boxing career at the age of thirteen going on to rack up 41 wins in 44 bouts at the amateur level and won 100% of his fights since turning pro. It’s not just the number of fights and wins he’s had, it’s the swagger and dexterity of his fight. The Southpaw fighter has a mesmerizing fighting semblance to Ukrainian boxer, Vasyl Lamachenko – AMB works and has fun with his opponent, never too eager to hit a KO.
Very few boxers have ever had to prove their brilliance so relentlessly and at such a unique and early stage in his development; Adesodun Michael Babatunde had fought over 47 bouts (amateur and sports festival bouts included) and he’s yet to turn 20.
At just 19, AMB boxes like a fight with 20 years of fighting experience as evident in his fight last Sunday – a non title invitational bout where he Knocked out one more unbeaten boxer in the latest test of his ring genius.
Speaking after AMB’s win, SonyJojo Entertainment CEO and Aurum Trading Exchange boss; Sunday Joseph said “I’ve followed his progress from amateur levels to the National sports festival and till he turned pro, Michael has everything it takes to take the world by storm.”
Talking about the boxing scene in Nigeria, He further emphasized, “Boxing used to be a huge sport in Nigeria back in the day, but poor sports development policies have almost undone the lore of the past and dulled the paths for new-generation boxers. But when you see talents with extra dedication and zeal like Michael, you know the future of Nigerian boxing is in great hands. This is why we must do our part to support this bright talent to achieve his dreams.”
Adesodun on his part said, “I hope to keep building and working every day and become a world champion someday and have my name written in the stars like the great fighter like Lomachenko, Mayweather, and Sugar Ray Robinson.”
With his unrelenting discipline, dedication, and obvious talent, Boxing in Nigeria may well have found another star.
