The Nigerian music scene never stops evolving, and just when you thought you’d heard it all, along comes Don Lamba, ready to drop a sound that’s both bold and refreshing. Forget the typical catchy hooks and killer verses; Don Lamba is out here whistling his way into the industry with his electrifying debut track, ‘Afro-Whistle.’ Yes, you read that right, whistling!
Born Onyekachukwu Mba, Don Lamba is shaking things up with a unique twist on the fusion of Highlife and Afrobeats that has everyone talking. “I’ve always been the guy who whistles,” he says with a grin. “When I started working on ‘Afro-Whistle,’ I wanted to make that part of my signature sound. It’s something different, and I knew it’d catch people’s attention.” Collaborating with talented artists like Oba Naija and Ajura, Don Lamba is crafting a vibe that effortlessly stands out in the ever-crowded Afrobeats market.
But Don Lamba’s journey goes beyond just crafting hits; it’s about building a movement. Together with his brother KC Wise, he co-founded CSE Records, a label that’s fast becoming a launchpad for rising stars like Mofizzay and 3plebeatz. “We’re not just creating music; we’re creating opportunities,” he insists. “CSE is about giving young artists a platform to show the world what they can do.” This commitment to uplifting others sets him apart in an industry often focused solely on individual success.
Drawing inspiration from the legends, Don Lamba reveres the likes of Don Jazzy, Mr. Eazi, and especially Olamide.
“Olamide’s career is a blueprint for me,” he admits. “He’s paved the way for so many artists, Adekunle Gold, Young John, Lil Kesh, Fireboy, Asake. That’s the type of legacy I want to leave behind.” This humility and respect for his predecessors fuel his ambition to create a lasting impact in the music world.
Next up for Don Lamba is the release of his highly anticipated two-track EP, featuring the much-hyped ‘Afro-Whistle’ and another banger titled ‘The Gods,’ featuring 3plebeatz. While ‘Afro-Whistle’ serves as a playful, upbeat introduction to Lamba’s sound, ‘The Gods’ dives deeper, showcasing hard-hitting Afrobeat rhythms and introspective lyrics that reflect the journey of an artist on the rise.
Don Lamba is here to disrupt the norm. He’s not just dropping songs; he’s unleashing a whole new vibe. With a distinctive sound, a keen eye for talent, and an unyielding desire to leave his mark on the industry, Don Lamba is undeniably the one to watch. So, when you hear that whistle cut through the beat, know that Don Lamba has officially arrived.
