The year 2021 came with some unmatched achievements in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
While Nigerian entertainers dropped some of the very best songs that leap by great bounds beyond the shore of the country, they also made some remarkable achievements as well as the not so remarkable that was unexpected and will keep many of their fans and followers talking for the rest of the year.
Davido donating the sum of 250 million Naira to the Orphanage
This is by far the most expected by any Nigerian entertainers this year. I don’t think even our politicians spend that much during their political campaigns.
Davido shocked many of his fans and followers after donating the sum of N250 million to orphanages across Nigeria during his 29th birthday celebration in 2021.
The fundraising had only started as a cruise by Davido on his Instagram page as he only told his friends and those he had impacted their lives and careers to send him 1 million each to Mark his birthday. However, before anyone could say ‘Up Nepa’, many prominent Nigerians had already joined the trend as they sent one million naira to Davido’s account, with the singer showing proof of the money as they came in.
It would be a lie to say Davido himself was not overwhelmed as the singer had to take some time off to most likely seek advice on what to do with the money as he never expected it.
As the saying goes, Givers Never Lack, the N250 million Davido donated to the orphanage, opened new contract deals for the singer as he was recently made a Wema Bank and PUMA brand ambassador.
Adekunle Gold getting a Tattoo of 30BG on his hand
The story of AG Baby and DMW boss seems to have been one that has gotten interest this year. This is because there were claims that Adekunle Gold was referring to Davido in his song Ariwo Ko – I don’t know how true this claim.
However, it was a big surprise to see Adekunle Gold feature Davido in his song “High“, which happens to be one of the biggest songs this year.
Perhaps Adekunle Gold was impressed by the way fans and followers received the song, and in a bid to show his love and probably loyalty to Davido, AG Baby decided to have a tattoo of 30 BG on his arm.
In case you don’t know, 30 BG, which means 30 Billion Gang, is a group of Davido’s closest associates.
The Return of P-Square
The return of Peter, Paul and Jude Okoye as P-Square happens to be one of the unexpected this year.
Popular Nigerian singers and twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, aka P-Square, had gone their separate in 2016 over disagreement on the role of their manager.
Following the end of the group, the twin brothers chose to pursue solo careers with the new names MrP and Rude Boy.
However, on the 17th of November 2021, a video of the the twin brothers embracing and exchanging handshakes at Peter Okoye’s home in Lagos surfaced on social media.
Peter’s wife, Lola Okoye and the twin’s older brother, Jude Okoye, were also present as they embraced each other.
Tiwa Savage’s video
Nigerian female singer Tiwa Savage was in the news around October following the leak of an alleged sex video that went viral on social media for days.
Tiwa Savage who had released the visual of her popular song Somebody’s Son during that period, revealed that she was a victim of blackmail.
According to the singer, the blackmailer was in possession of footage showing her intimate moments with her lover.
The singer stressed that the sex video was mistakenly posted on Snapchat by her lover, who deleted it immediately when he realized the error, but it was too late/
